Matthew B. Goetz, MD is Professor of Clinical Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. Dr. Goetz obtained his undergraduate degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He did his Internal Medicine residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and his Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Goetz serves on the National VHA Antimicrobial Stewardship Taskforce, the Medical Advisory Panel to the Pharmacy Benefits Management Group, the HIV Technical Advisory Group, the Infectious Diseases Field Advisory Board, and the COVID-19 Testing Workgroup. He previously served on the FDA Anti-Microbial Drug Advisory Committee.
Dr. Goetz has been an investigator on projects sponsored by the VA, NIH, and the CDC. He has led multi-site implementation studies to improve inpatient antimicrobial stewardship. During the COVID-19 pandemic he was engaged in local and national VHA programs to address numerous infection control and clinical issues.
Finally, Dr. Goetz is a member of the editorial advisory board of Clinical Infectious Diseases and the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes and has over 250 peer-reviewed publications.
