David P. Nicolau, PharmD, is Director of the Center for Anti-Infective Research and Development and Coordinator for Research in the Departments of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Pharmacy at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT. Dr Nicolau’s investigations of antibiotic activity against infection and his examinations of alternative methods in antimicrobial therapy are reported in more than 380 published articles and 256 abstracts. In addition, he serves on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals, including Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Surgical Infections, Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice, and Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy.
Dr Nicolau’s research interests include clinical pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, the development of antimicrobial utilization methodologies focusing on animal models of infection, healthy volunteer studies, and clinical studies as tools for success. He is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the ASHP Infectious Diseases Special Practice Group, and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists.
