My name is Denise D’Elia. I am thirty-one years old. I was born and grew up in South of Italy where I graduated in Medicine from “Magna Graecia” University in 2019. During my university course I also did an observership in Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, in 2018. I have been working as a resident in the Infectious Disease Division in the Udine University Hospital in North-Eastern Italy since 2021. It is a big hospital in a strategic position as it is on the human migration route from the Balkans, but also from Africa. It is the reference centre for autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. So, besides infective endocarditis, bone and joint infections, skin and soft tissue infections, HIV infection and obviously COVID-19 pandemic, I have the opportunity to treat patients with tuberculosis, severe infections in immunocompromised patients, and some tropical infectious diseases. I have been involved in specialist consultation for infections in the other hospital wards, too. Obviously, as it is a University Hospital, I have been participating in clinical research based mainly on infective endocarditis, skin and soft tissue infections, therapeutic drug monitoring of antibiotics. In the future, I would like to specialize in the treatment of infections both in solid-organ transplant and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
